Deep Connection(2021) Augmented Reality Adobe Aero Recording

The title 'Deep Connection' refers to the importance of humans’ connection with nature and encapsulates the inspiration for this project, “Biophilia”. The naturalist Edward O. Wilson describes “Biophilia” as the innate human desire to be connected and surrounded by nature. Humans need to actively seek nature to satisfy their "green gene", particularly in the modern world. An absence of connections with nature can lead to anxiety and depression. Since the pandemic shuttered our collective doors, I have sought out the natural world to cope with anxiety. My work fuses physical sculptures made from air-dry clay with an Augmented Reality experience. The three physical sculptures, which represent the Sun, Moon, and Earth, are inspired by the traditional Korean style painting, Ilwol Obongdo. Ilwol Obongdo is a landscape painting of a sun, a moon, and mountains on a folding screen. Using augmented reality, I created a phoenix, a mythical fish, and a human with plant-root-like appendages to float around the physical sculptures to illustrate the connection
