Inspired by Tarkovsky's "Solaris" and quantum physics. The ever-changing sea reflects the fluidity of memory and identity, creating a captivating interplay of past and present.
Ocean of Solaris is a three-channel video installation inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Solaris (1972) and the “observer effect” in quantum physics, examining how the act of observation can reshape reality. The “Ocean” in the title recalls the ever-shifting sea in Solaris, a living presence reflecting human memories and inner states. As a fluid and subconscious entity, this ocean acts as a central motif, symbolizing transformations in time, memory, and identity.
Spanning roughly four minutes, the video unfolds across three screens, accompanied by an original soundtrack and ambient audio that deepen the sense of immersion. Viewers are drawn into a space where boundaries between past and present, imagination and reality begin to blur, allowing them to experience firsthand how perception and memory continuously shape our reality. Through this immersive exploration, Ocean of Solaris encourages us to reconsider how we exist—and how we come to know ourselves.
